About us
We celebrate the rich Wayuu culture and fashion by providing meticulously handpicked handcrafted Wayuu products, directly sourced from the heart of La Guajira, Colombia.
We are devoted to preserving tradition while delivering exceptional handmade Wayuu products that reflect genuine Colombian artistry.
Who are the Wayuu?
The Wayuu are the largest indigenous community in Colombia, residing in the arid landscapes of La Guajira, the northernmost region of South America. As a matriarchal and autonomous society, their traditions are deeply rooted in resilience and heritage.
Wayuu bags are more than just finely crafted accessories—they are handwoven narratives, embodying the essence of Wayuu womanhood and centuries-old traditions passed down through generations.
The Wayuu people are divided into over 30 clans, each living in rancherías—small, secluded settlements made of clay huts with palm-thatched roofs. Despite centuries of external influence and colonial pressures, the Wayuu have proudly safeguarded their culture, language, and way of life, standing as a testament to their enduring strength and identity.
OUR MISSION
At Manos Wayuu, we are dedicated to empowering women by helping them achieve financial independence and knowledge. We do this by collaborating with and supporting over 120 indigenous Wayuu artisans, providing them with secure and meaningful work. Their incredible craftsmanship shines through in every Wayuu bag we create—a true testament to our dedication to quality, tradition, and positive impact.
Support Fair Trade
Indigenous women are among the most vulnerable groups facing extreme poverty. To help provide better living conditions, Manos Wayuu ensures fair compensation by paying 25-30% above the standard market rate for our Wayuu bags, supporting artisans with sustainable and dignified wages.
